I.Q. tests and the Flynn effect

tomine illustration for the new yorker

I.Q.s around the world appear to be rising by three points per decade. Working backwards, this means that a century ago the US population consisted mostly by folks who today would be considered mentally retarded. So what is I.Q. really measuring? Modernity!

Malcolm Gladwell has an interesting article/review of James Flynn’s “What is Intelligence” in the New Yorker (read all about it here)… Which is a nice opportunity for me to say how lovely and well organized the new New Yorker site is! Print Magazine had a nice article about the site redesign with William Drenttel and Jessica Helfand of Winterhouse.
