Lisa Solomon likes paint tiles

I’ve had an obsession with paint tiles for quite some time, and used to be a frequent covert collecter during every home depot trip for lightbulbs and batteries. Although I had a few projects with them (notebook covers, present tags), I realize I have more hanging around than I have actually been using. Part of the appeal to me is the spectrum of colors, the immediate feelings/associations that arise from a color, and oftentimes project inspiration for defining a palette. In any case, this use of paint chips from Lisa Solomon is one of my more favorite applications — as a backdrop or canvas for embroidery! There are such fun possibilities: do the colors inspire the embroidery objects? Or is it an odd juxtaposition (I hear this artist likes painting pink tanks). Decide for youself! See more work.
