Magazine Inspiration

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

The CR Blog has a great post (When Objects Become Magazines) about a magazine exhibition. They’re all pretty great but I think my favorite might be Arkitip, just because it’s closest to I’d like to be doing myself.

I also really like the idea behind T-Post.

If You Had the World’s Biggest Canvas, Would You Draw Your Own Hideous Face?

Monday, May 26th, 2008

There are usually only seven or eight people in the world who hear about things after I do, and three of them are in jail.  It follows, then, that you have probably already heard about this man who drew a self portrait on the earth by sending a GPS device on a world tour using [...]

mismatch and big ideas

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

new brilliant insights from malcolm gladwell:

video from the New Yorker Conference, talking about hiring difficulties in the modern age.
And in the New Yorker In the Air all about big ideas and where invention comes from. In the history of science, there are innumerable cases of people coming up with the same inventions at the same [...]

fold it

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I get really excited when I see paper fold patterns, whether or not it is the new open source sewing patterns from burda (which, amazingly enough, print brilliantly on 8.5×11 paper) or the readyMechs from fwis or the mock iPhone on John’s desk. Hermes has jumped into the fun with a free paper fold pattern of their iconic [...]

pretty table II : Juliette

continuing on the review of restaurant interiors and graphics, our recent trip to new york produced some nice food for thought. paling around in brooklyn, we happened upon a great bar HUGS, had no problem finding a place for a late night confection (called Parlour? their treats were infused with greek flavors, even, as with [...]

Iron Man Credits Sequence

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I really like the credits sequence Prolouge Film’s Danny Yount did for Iron Man.  I didn’t know about it until I saw it at the theatre and I was very pleasantly surprised.
It’s paced perfectly, the added shakiness and dirt go really well with the music, and the way the schematics blow out and rotate add [...]

design and the elastic mind

Monday, May 5th, 2008

we made sure to get to new york before design and the elastic mind closed… some of our favorite things:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * [...]

jump!

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

although Beth saw the lion’s share of movies at the IFF this year (and can post her highlights! including the new Werner Herzog antarctica movie!), I would like to call attention to this incredible feat of dexterity (and a great story to boot). Beth took me to see JUMP! a film about the world of [...]

le dot

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

I get very excited about dots. Particularly when they could have a use as textile patterns for A-line mini-dresses in a hit video game that all the kids love. But, that is secondary, of course to just being gruntled by the dots.

A place to share your work, post links, rant, rave and so on.
